Fr. 309 $20 1880 Silver Certificate Fine. Listed as one of the 44 known examples in Martin Gengerke's United Stater Paper Money Records where it is graded as a Very Fine. The note is a solid Fine, with the appearance of a higher grade. It's well margined, bright and quite attractive. These Stephen Decatur 1880 Silver Certificates have the striking dark brown back that distinguishes this entire series, the only series of U.S. currency that used this color. It's a rather rare number in any grade and very rare in high grade, with not a single uncirculated example reported. This note has been off the market since its appearance in a 1985 Hickman and Oakes sale. Important notice: We expect to be auctioning lots at the rate of 200-250 per hour.
