Fr. 212-e $100 1865 Interest Bearing Note Very Fine, Restored. A remarkable example of this incredible rarity, one of just three known examples, and the only known example with all five original interest coupons attached. The other two known notes are actually finer in terms of technical condition, but each has fewer attached coupons. One is the example in the National Numismatic Collection in the Smithsonian, with just one coupon. The other note, formerly in the collection of Texas businessman Amon Carter, has three remaining coupons. This is the only example with all five of the original coupons, and is therefore, arguably, the most original note of the surviving three. At one time the note had some margin problems and a small piece was missing, but it has been expertly restored and looks fully original under all but the closest expert inspection. It is amazing at all that the piece survived intact, without any interest coupons being redeemed-perhaps some previous owner lost, misplaced, or forgot this note, only for it to be later discovered and cherished as a valuable numismatic collectible. A great rarity, one of only two notes of the design known to exist in private hands, and unique as a complete specimen with all five original interest coupons attached-a desirable note in all respects. This note was previously in a CGA holder as Very Fine 20, Repaired. It has now been removed from that holder, but the CGA paper strip accompanies the note. When last on the auction block, this piece brought $97,750 in the Bowers & Merena Sale of the Harry Bass, Jr. Collection. Important notice: We expect to be auctioning lots at the rate of 200-250 per hour. On occasion eBay live bid software cannot keep up with the pace of the auctions where 4-5 lots per minute can hammer down, so we recommend that you place a realistic absentee bid now as insurance to avoid disappointment. Also please note that all Heritage/CAA lots purchased through eBay Live carry a 20% Buyer's Premium. Please make sure you read the Terms and Conditions.
