<B>Fr. 207 $50 1861 Interest Bearing Note CGA Very Fine 25.</B></I> This 1861 $50 Interest Bearing Note is unique to our best knowledge. It is the only piece recorded in the Gengerke census and it had previously been part of the Harry Bass Research Foundation. Its only prior market appearance was in 1999 when Bowers and Merena sold the Bass Foundation notes. At that sale, it realized $86,250. This piece is missing from all museum collections, including the Smithsonian. It's a gorgeous VF with fresh original ink colors, and no problems worthy of mention. It's beautifully margined and has two of its original five coupons remaining. Issued contemporarily with Demand Notes, this bill used the same format where various Treasury employees signed "for the" register and treasurer. On this note, both signatures remain beautifully sharp. The note was originally made payable to a Colonel Samuel Colt and is endorsed on the back by him, which turned it into a bearer instrument.
