Fr. 2022-E/2071-E $10 & $20 1974 Federal Reserve Notes. Choice Crisp Uncirculated. This interesting assemblage first made headlines on the numismatic scene in February of 1977. For almost thirty years, this grouping has had error specialists scratching their heads ever since. The third printing on the $20 FRN in the middle of the two $10 FRN's was certainly meant to be placed on another sawbuck based on serial number ranges provided by the BEP. Somehow an inattentive operator mixed in a sheet or half-sheet of $20 notes into the stack of $10 notes awaiting their third printing. Why haven't any others surfaced? Possibly because no one realized the significance of this mixed denomination sequence. This grouping is quite possibly unique and appears as a plate set in Dr. Frederick J. Bart's Comprehensive Catalog & Price Guide of United States Paper Money Errors, 2nd edition. An estimate on such an offering is but a guess as Dr. Bart's guide has placed a value of $5000. Given the history and facts surrounding this interesting error discovery I can only ask this question, where will you find another?
