Fr. UNL Hessler X134E $10,000 Temporary Loan of 1862 St. Louis Office of the Assistant Treasurer of the United States Fine-Very Fine. Hessler gives this number his highest rarity rating of R8, 1 to 3 known. Assistant Treasurers were authorized to receive deposits of not less than $100 for a term of not less than 30 days. In return, they would issue a certificate of deposit earning 5% per annum. In order to get your money back you had to turn in your certificate of deposit. This resulted in the extreme rarity of these certificates. The left vignette is of a Civil War soldier in zouave dress and the center vignette is of The Eagle's Nest. This is an unsigned and undated remainder with serial number 1214. It exhibits even wear and nice color. There is a tiny right edge nick mentioned for cataloguing accuracy.

Coin Engraver: probably Joseph Wright

Shipping: Coins & Currency (view shipping information)
