Fr. 194 $500 1863 Compound Interest Treasury Note Fin
Fr. 194 $500 1863 Compound Interest Treasury Note Fine. From Lyn Knight's November 2003 sale where it was described, "From our Fall 2000 sale, described as, 'Three-year interest bearing note. Rather than a proof, this appears to be more of a trial piece from the plate that was somehow saved. The vignette on the left is that of "The Standard Bearer," by George D. Baldwin. James Smillie engraved "New Ironsides," on the right. This note first appeared in the 1981 Memphis sale and has been in the same collection since. Friedberg does not even have an illustration shown in the book. I know I have never seen it before.'" At that sale, the note was listed as "Unsold," and our consignor acquired it privately at a later date. An approximate 2 1/2 inch contemporary thin repair is found on the back. Offered without estimate. Lot:16744
