Fr. 193a $100 1864 Compound Interest Treasury Note Ve
Fr. 193a $100 1864 Compound Interest Treasury Note Very Fine. We sold this note once before in January 2001, and at that time we described it as follows. "This note is the discovery piece for Fr. 193, a note that until now has been listed as unknown in all the reference works. The note is a full very fine, but it has four well restored areas; the lower left corner tip has a thumb-nail sized restoration; the upper left corner tip has a much, much smaller restoration; and there are two pinky-nail-sized restorations along the top margin. Save for those, the note is a full, bright, attractive VF. In spite of the note never having been reported to exist, the repairs seem to be decades old. They're done at the level of what had been considered masterful until the past decade. If the note were re-restored today, the repairs would be virtually undetectable. The bronze, although less than fully bright, retains some of its original color and is wholly without corrosion. There are very few US currency items known to have been produced that have remained undiscovered. This could easily be the only discovery number to appear for decades into the future. It's a simply spectacular one-of-a-kind rarity, destined to be included in the very finest of collections." At that sale, the note realized $107,250, a number that should be within striking distance tonight. Lot:16743
