In spite of this note's rather low grade, it's a very presentable piece. The note appears problem-free, but the edges have been expertly restored at the top, particularly at the top center, where approximately 1/8" of paper has been replaced and carefully re-inked. The internal areas of the note are free of restorations and have no defects whatsoever. Since we sold this note in October of '98, only two 165a's have reached the market. We sold an identical note in January of 2000 for $30,800 and a note not quite as nice in May of 2000 for $24,750. When this note sold in 1998, it realized $11,550 on a $10,000 estimate. We would expect it to just about double that figure tonight.
