Fr. 163 $50 1880 Legal Tender PMG Fine 12. This Friedberg number has a population of five, with two permanently impounded within the Federal Reserve system. The third piece has been off the market since 1973 and the fourth example is a Gem that we sold for almost $69,000 in September 2001. This is the fifth documented note. It was formerly of the Rickey Collection and the PCGS holder has been opened. Previously this note was once part of the Robert Schermerhorn Collection during the 1950s when he and William Philpott were Dallas rivals for the rarest of the rare when it came to paper money. We last sold this particular note for just under $20,000 in January 1997. With several collectors vying to complete sets of United States paper money by Friedberg number, this piece becomes a necessary purchase by anyone serious enough to attempt to collect in this manner. This is another note in this auction that asks the question, "If not tonight, when?"

Shipping: Coins & Currency (view shipping information)
