Fr. 151 $50 1869 Legal Tender PCGS Very Fine 30. This lovely 1869 Fifty last auctioned in November 2006 for $46,000. Although about 50 notes are known of this type, they rarely seem to cross the market. Ten of them are impounded in government hands or museums and quite a few others are simply reported and have not reached the public market in decades. This one is amazingly colorful for the assigned grade with a deep blue anti-counterfeiting stain and a bright red seal. These 1869 Rainbow notes are extremely popular with collectors, and were produced straight through the $1 to $1000 denomination. Budgetary constraints stop most collectors at the $20 denomination, which is a shame since these $50s have a striking beauty that enhances any collection of type notes. Even if your $1 through $20 set is made up of Uncirculated notes, you should consider this Fifty. Its wonderful colors would make it right at home in an Uncirculated set in spite of its technical Very Fine grade. A quality rarity.
From The Peter Gamble Collection.

Shipping: Coins & Currency (view shipping information)
