Fr. 1251 10¢ Third Issue Vertical Pair Very Choice New. The word "rare" becomes so overused when cataloging an incredible collection like Tom O'Mara's. However, there's really no other verbal place to go to describe an item like this. Red Back Ten Cent pairs have no accurate census, but we've handled exactly two in our 40+ years of dealing in Fractional Currency, and were we to guess the census, our conjecture would be that two or three exist. Yet, these incredibly rare pairs tend to bring only a small premium above the individual note price. Should that situation correct itself, the upside for these great items is virtually unlimited. Unlike vertical pairs in general, this piece does not have a fold between the notes, and it is gorgeous, with excellent color, good margins and all its original embossing. A great item. At the O'Mara sale where there was such a wealth of great material to choose from, this gorgeous pair was overlooked and sold for less than $1,400, an event that is unlikely to happen again.
