Fr. 1246 10¢ Second Issue Milton 2R10.?? New. Pri
Fr. 1246 10¢ Second Issue Milton 2R10.?? New. Printed on bond paper, that is, paper that was intended for the printing of bonds as opposed to bond paper referring to its cotton content. During the fall of 1863, various experiments in papers, inks and bronzing were carried out at the Treasury Department. Blank paper overprinted in bronze for bonds was reused for some Fractional Currency Experimental notes. Paper on which Experimental National Bank Note printings appeared in bronze was also prepared. Some of this paper was also used for Fractional Experimentals. Until this note surfaced in 1993, no Regular Issue notes from either of these papers were known. The known National printings were "First - Washington D.C.," and "Second - Baltimore, MD." The bond bronze printings were, "FIFTY," "100," "500" and "1000." The FIFTY, 100, 500 and 1000 bronze imprints were surrounded by a bronze border. The border from one of those imprints appears boldly at the top right of this note. To this date, only two regular issue examples exist showing this overprint. This 10¢ is the better grade of those two; the other is the 25¢ in the next lot.
