Fr. 1230 Used As Postage. A 5¢ Fr. 1230 has been mounted to the upper left of an envelope and used as a stamp. It was postmarked "New York September 20 9 P.M. 1901". The identical postmark appears a second time at the upper right of the envelope. This is one of the very few known indisputably genuine examples of Postage Currency used as postage. We have sold this twice before, first as lot 96 of our January 1997 sale of the Milt Friedberg collection where it realized $770 and again as lot 15693 of our May 2005 O'Mara sale where it realized $2,300 on an estimate of $1,500.
From The Peter Gamble Collection.

Shipping: Coins & Currency (view shipping information)
