Fr. 1228(a?) Milton ? 5¢ First Issue Perforated 1
Fr. 1228(a?) Milton ? 5¢ First Issue Perforated 16 Choice New. This and the 10¢ and 25¢ below are a three-note set that was first brought to the market by Lester Merkin in the 1970's. The notes had been separated at one point, but they have been brought back together by Tom O'Mara. We sold the 5¢ and 10¢ in our January 1994 auction of the Liechty sale with the following description: "Purchased from Lester Merkin in the 1970's, this note has perforations that are even closer together than the well-known and listed 'perf. 14' 50¢ note. Originally bought as a set of three (5¢, 10¢ and 25¢), the 25¢ note has been sold privately, leaving this and the following lot. This note grades Choice New, with its original paper surfaces evident. No records exist to prove or disprove that this is not a government product (the perfs, not the notes.) But it is not too much of a leap of faith to suppose that their origin is from the same source as the Fr. 1310a's (see previous lot.)" In that sale, we offered the Five Cent and Ten Cent. Tom acquired both of those, along with the 25¢, and they are all being offered in this sale.
