Fr. 1216a $500 1882 Gold Certificate PMG Very Fine 30. No uncirculated example of this $500 Gold Certificate is known. The highest graded piece, a raw AU, sold at auction in November of 2006 for $115,000. The highest third-party-graded example sold at public auction to date was a PMG 20, which we sold for $17,250 in January of 2006. PMG has graded seven examples of this number, with a lone 35 the highest, and this 30 right below it. The note is a beauty that appears to be quite accurately graded. The colors are perfect, with the gold overprint and red seal of the face contrasting beautifully. The bright orange ink of the back has not faded at all, and even the tiniest of details remain clearly defined. An important note in all grades, but particularly so this nice.
From The Thomas M.
