<B>Fr. 1192 $50 1882 Gold Certificate Choice Very Fine.</B></I> This recently discovered specimen brings the total of known examples to seventeen. The sum is a bit misleading to hopeful collectors as four of the pieces are permanently impounded in institutional collections and seven more haven't been offered publicly in six years or longer. Pleasing, original paper, exceptionally bright colors, and bold printed details add to the appeal of this $50, which ranks as one of the three finest known examples. Frankly, only one other piece can lay claim to a higher grade, an EF that last appeared in 2003 and sold for $57,500 in a considerably less active market for rarities. More recently, we sold the Dr. Edward and Joanne Dauer PMG VF30 EPQ example for $74,750 in September of last year. Having catalogued both pieces, we daresay that, in a head to head competition, this is considerably the nicer of the two examples.
