Fr. 1175a $20 1882 Gold Certificate PCGS Very Fine 35. Two dozen examples of this issue are known. We have handled a number of the specimens and each time we have the privilege to offer an example, the price exceeds the last and usually by a decent margin. Thomas C. Acton countersigned this issue, giving this "Triple Signature" a little more appeal than your common 1882 Gold Certificate. A detailed examination of the census and auction records reveals that three notes are graded EF with two higher. Two of the EFs in the census (this note included) are now a PCGS VF35 and VF35PPQ holders. We have not seen the third EF, but today's third party grading standards may result in a similar grade for that specimen. All said, this is one of the top five specimens available, if not one of the top three or four. The colors front and back are still sufficient, if not bright for the grade. There are a few too many folds to qualify for a full EF grade though we are certain that the numeric 35 is what collectors refer to as Very Fine-Extremely Fine. There are no compromises of the paper or restorations to speak of.

Shipping: Coin/Currency (view shipping information)
