Fr. 1021a $50 1914 Red Seal Federal Reserve Note PMG Very Good 8. This new note raises the total now known to five examples. The most recent to have reached the auction block was in March of 1991. Two of the five known notes are permanently impounded: one in the Kansas City Federal Reserve System and one in the San Francisco Fed, leaving only three notes to the collecting public. When this note sells tonight, it will be the first time in seventeen years that a collector has had the opportunity to acquire a 1021a. With the 1021b equally as rare, Kansas City Red Seal Fifties are just about noncollectable. This note is a little nicer than what we would expect for a VG 8. It does have a few pinholes, which PMG has mentioned, but the edges are solid, and the piece is not unattractive.
From The Thomas M.
