Fox Features Syndicate Promotional Material
Fox Features Syndicate - Large Lot of Newspaper and Radio Promotional Material (1940). An amazing bonanza of promotional material is offered here: some 30 individual items! And this type of item is far more difficult to find than even the Fox comics themselves -- we would not be surprised if some of these items were the only surviving specimens. The highlights are two fantastic two-color posters for the Blue Beetle radio show, one depicting all of the promotional material available. But there's also a copy of the Weekly Comic Magazine (1st version; Overstreet lists only an "estimated NM- value" of $625); a four-page flyer on the Blue Beetle show; a poster for the Blue Beetle show; black-and-white "Samson," "Blue Beetle," and "Rex Dexter of Mars" proofs, various strips of paper filled with breathless promotional text, obviously meant to be pasted onto posters or elsewhere; various pages cut from Fox comics with panel borders trimmed; an intact four-page Sunday comic supplement from the Long Island Daily Advocate with eight different Fox strips; numerous letters to editors touting the Fox strips (mostly from "P.C. Stone," perhaps a pseudonym for Victor Fox?); and nice color proofs of "Rex Dexter of Mars" and "Blue Beetle" Sundays. While we didn't see any Jack Kirby art here (he was reputedly behind some of the Blue Beetle dailies), there's art by the likes of Alex Blum and Dick Briefer, and who knows who else hiding behind the usual Fox "house names" (Walter Frame, etc.). If you collect this publisher, you'll get a ton of enjoyment out of this lot. From the John McLaughlin Collection.

Shipping: Flat Material, Small (view shipping information)
