<B>Four Legal Documents Pertaining to Slaves.</B></I> An especially fine group as follows:<BR><B>Partially printed court case,</B></I> one page with docketing, 8.5" x 13.75", Decatur County, Georgia, October 31, 1857. Signed by 20 jurors, the case involves over-charging for a ferry ride in violation of state law. The defendant's "servant, a negro man slave" took the money. Light stains, else very good condition.<BR><B>Manuscript legal document,</B></I> one page, 7.5" x 6", Dooley County, Georgia, December 24, 1857. A fascinating oath to enforce prohibition along racial lines. It reads in part, "<I>I William R. Dawson do solemnly swear that I will not during the next twelve months sell barter give or furnish to any slave or slaves or free persons of color any quantity of distilled spirits…</B></I>". A few small stains, else very good condition.<BR><B>Partially printed receipt,</B></I> one page, 8.25" x 5.5, Columbia, South Carolina, n.d., but 1860s. Here one Henry Glenn documents $1800 received in compensation for a male slave lost to the Confederate Government while being employed on fortifications. Fine condition.<BR><B>Sheriff's report of a slave sale.</B></I> Manuscript document, one page with verso docketing, 7.75" x 10.25", Fayette County, Georgia, April 16, 1864. Three slaves are named as being auctioned in this late war document.
