<B>Four John C. Hemment Horse Racing Images,</B></I> two are 20" x 16" overall with matt and two are 16" x 20" overall with matt. The verso of each matt carries Hemment's stamp. The images focus on the thoroughbred "Old Honesty" winning the 1908 Bay Ridge Handicap, 1908 Long Beach Handicap, and 1907 Tarrytown Handicap, a race in which "Old Honesty" was ridden by black jockey Jimmy Lee. Minor edge chips to matts, else fine condition. Hemment began photographing races in the early 1890s and mastered the art of action photography at a time when sedentary subjects were the rule. His documentary photographs of horse racing are eagerly sought by collectors. Included with this lot are three actual facsimiles of charts associated with the races mentioned above.
