Very attractive group of five kachina dolls
A) The black and white body paint, often featuring a handprint or other symbols, suggests a Guard or Ogre kachina, possibly a Hilili. These figures are associated with discipline and a warrior's role within certain ceremonies.
B) The striking turquoise face and black, flowing hair are strong indicators of an Angakchina or Long Hair Kachina. These are rain-bringing spirits, highly significant to the Hopi people for a successful harvest and general well-being.
C) The white face, large fur ruff, and painted symbols may represent a Wolf (Kweo) or White Buffalo kachina, which are animal spirits. Animal kachinas often act as advisors or assistants to hunters and appear in various dances.
D) The rattle is a large, red, gourd-like object with a white, curved beak. It is decorated with black and white designs and has a string attached. This type of rattle is sometimes referred to as a "Rattle Racer Kachina Doll" (Aya).
