an unrelated group consisting of pencil signed Dr. McAbee/Ohio V. by Brady, a uniformed view of D. W. Hand/Surg. M.S. Vols with imprint of H.C. Phillips, Philadelphia, a post-war view of Assistant Surgeon Jean Victor DeHanne signed Complements of/Dr. and Mrs. Dehanne by Kuhn, Atlanta. Plus, a portrait signed T.L. Vancoast (Vancross?)/Surg. ?? for 1865 with G.F. Child, Washington, D.C. imprint.

Harry M. McAbee joined the 4th OVI as surgeon in June 1861 and resigned in September 1863. Daniel Widen Hand was the first surgeon of the 1st Minnesota before joining the US Volunteer Medical Staff Corps in September 1861. Hand served as brigade surgeon in charge of general hospital and was brevetted twice in March 1865, mustering out in December 1865 as colonel. Surgeon DeHanne originally joined in the 176th NY as a private and was discharged for disability. He re-entered service as assistant surgeon in the US Volunteer Medical Staff Corps in December 1864 and received two brevets to major in June 1867. He remained an assistant surgeon until retiring from the army in February 1891. Nothing is known about Vancoast/Vancross.

Condition: CDVs G with minor edge wear and staining. The Hand carte shows water damage along the left border with bent mount.
