In this lot we have three C.M Russell sketches. The first of these sketches is called "Young Sioux Squaw." the description says " Dressed as belle of the tribe in buckskin tunic, elk teeth ornaments, porcupine collarette, brass bracelets, plaited hair, brass wire earrings and beaded knife scabbard. In her right hand she carries an oar, her left rests upon a buffalo bull boat. The bull boat is made directly from the hide of a buffalo... The second sketch is called "Flathead Squaw and Papoose" it says "Squaw in blanket, carrying a sleeping papoose, in ordinary method of carrying children... The third sketch is called " Wood Hawk" it says" In Buckskin shirt leaning on axe, and an old-time, Henry rifle stands near the tree. The wood hawk was a man in the early day who made his living by cutting wood for the steamers on the Missouri. The last sketch is called "Red River Breed" French Canadian breed of the Red River district known as the Red River breed. Fancy buckskin beaded shirt, sash, buckskin leggings and moccasins, clay pipe, square cut hair, with straggly whiskers, and old-time Sharps carbine. The visible artwork of this sketch is 9 1/2" x 13 1/2" with the frame being approximately 13" x 17."
