A cut square autograph from John Jay, a Founding Father of the United States, delegate of the First and Second Continental Congresses (later President of the Continental Congress), and first Chief Justice of the United States. Jay was a massively important figure in the American Revolution, as a signatory of the Treaty of Paris and co-author of the Federalist Papers. He also served as the second governor of New York.
The cut square appears to be taken from a letter. It is mounted along with a B&W image of Jay from a 1794 portrait with a lilac mat in a frame with no glass. Some damage to mat, cut square is in great condition, toning consistent with age. 11.25"x16.25"x1".
