Rossoff Medical Bottle Collection The following medical bottle collection is the result of fifty years of collecting by Dr. Irving S. Rossoff during the period c1949-2000. Dr. Rossoff completed his medical schooling at Cornell University in 1949. He headed west, anticipating a fun trip across the country to look for a job in California. His car broke down in Taylorville, Illinois. They needed a large animal veterinarian there, so he stayed. He also became a drug consultant. As typical of rural America, Rossoff was often paid “in trade”. He collected and sometimes received medical bottles in lieu of payment, and so began the collection. The collection consists of more than 700 bottles, most with original paper labels, dating from about 1880 to circa 1920 (cork tops) with no contents. The majority of bottles are amber, with perhaps 60 cobalt and 60 clear bottles. Each lot may contain a few screw top labeled bottles, though these are the exception. Some, though only a very few, are also embossed. The Collection contains examples from perhaps every major drug manufacturer or distributor in the Midwest to East Coast. Each specimen is clean, with no contents. Some labels are fancy and pictorial, others quite plain. Only a few pieces have their original box. The best bottle is arguably the labeled cobalt coffin shaped poison. Rossoff Collection - HKA#66144
