Forty-Seven Reduced-Size Bronze Folles struck under Con
Forty-Seven Reduced-Size Bronze Folles struck under Constantine I, the Great, AD 307-337. All emanate from the important military fortifications at Trier and uniformly depict Sol standing. As the coins from Lugdunum and London, these are also encapsulated and graded by NGC with a group average of "XF." Lot of 47 coins.

Because of the relatively few monetary transactions that still exist from ancient sources, the actual names and values of many ancient denominations are not known. "Follis" in Latin means "bag," referring to the purse or bag which held a group of these coins. When introduced during the tetrarchy, the follis was a large diameter, silvered coin. This group of folles and the companion two lots from other mints are comprised of later, reduced-size pieces that most collectors know as a follis or an AE 3; NGC terms them a "nummus." .
Estimated Value $675 - 750.
