Childs to Robert Anderson. Anderson has filled out the questionnaire with the first answer being his signature. In full (Anderson's handwritten replies in italics): "Philadelphia, July 20, 1863. Sir, I am having prepared with great care, by an eminent author, a work embracing 'The Life and Services of the Generals of the Army,' Illustrated with fine Steel Portraits, and I would esteem it a favor if you would allow some friend or member of your staff to fill up the following blanks: Name, in full. <I>Robert Anderson.</B></I> When and where born.<I>June 14. 1805. at 'Soldier's Retreat. Jefferson Co., Ky.</B></I> If graduated, when and where. <I>July 1825. U.S. Military Academy West Point</B></I> Date of your first entering the army, and present commission. <I>July 1, 1825. Brig Genl U.S.A.</B></I> List of battles in which you have participated, and any facts or particulars regarding the same. <I>Bad Axe Black Hawk War. 1832. Jupiter Inlet Fla 1838. On verso is a printed announcement for "Lossing's Pictorial History of the Great Rebellion". Slight tears in blank areas at edges of folds, else in fine condition. Accompanied by manuscript biographical information relating to Anderson, 1.5p, 5" x 8", dated November 12, 1862. This was part of the renowned Collection of Oliver R.
