<B>Fort Smith, AR </B></I>- $5 1882 Brown Back Fr. 469 <B>The American NB</B></I> Ch. # (S)3634<BR> The "Circus Poster" layout is the most eye catching and collectible design in the $5 Brown Back series. This note is problem free with wonderful penned signatures and crisp surfaces. As a type, Brown Backs from the state are composed of 21 examples with 13 being $5 notes, the majority from here. Fort Smith began as an outpost with the original fort being built in 1817 and abandoned in 1824. Another fort followed in 1838.
