View over dock and town. Photograph measures 9-1/2 x 7-1/2,” black single matte 11-3/4 x 9-3/4.” Focus is sharp. Contrast is medium. There is moderate damage to upper corners of the matte and a significant tear across lower right corner--small area of image corner involved. Matte torn at upper left side. Several darker smudges and black spots across entire image. Two small perforations on bottom and one small perforation in top of matte. Extensive water staining on reverse. Notation on image reads “Blankenberg Photo” (not in Mautz). “Fort Seward, Alaska” noted on image. Fort Seward was built next to the town of Haines. Capt. Wilds P. Richardson, in 1902, was sent to up Lynn Canal to build a new fort. Colonel Thomas C. Woodbury arrived in 1904 as the first Commander of the Fort. There were 90 buildings when the fort was completed.
