Ford's Theatre. Washington, D.C. theatr
Ford's Theatre. Washington, D.C. theatre where Lincoln was assassinated by John Wilkes Booth on Apr. 14, 1865. Owned by John Ford, who also served as manager of the theatre. Excessively rare pair of tickets for a "Recital" at "Ford's Opera House," for the 1865-66 season, admission 10 . Each ticket with slight nick at corner (the two tiny pieces have been retained). With invoice from Henry C. Wiedefeld of Baltimore, July 23, 1883, with vignette, to John Goffey, for "2 coffins, 6 handles & plates & names, 2 ice caskets, and 7 carriages and large hearse." Ford, who was on the Baltimore City Council at that time, has penned in his hand, "The city will pay $100. J.T. Ford" on the invoice. His script dark and choice. With very fine cartes of Lincoln (with Washington, "Apotheosis") and Booth (seated, with cane), and modern 8 x 10 photo of Ford's Theatre, mourning drapery on outside. The tickets and signed invoice are highly unusual and seldom seen.
