Heavily annotated. Generally fine. An interesting sales room copy, featuring prices realized and many buyers’ names or initials written in pencil, along with notes on rarity, condition, etc. Computations on the last page include a note that the sale brought $107,187.00. Adams A-: Strong Latin American gold: Brasher counterstamp. Excellent U.S. gold: 1933 $20, 1815 $5, 1819 $5, 1798 small eagle $5. Shults $5. 1880 $4.” This sale featured the first appearance at auction of “the excessively rare 1933 double eagle,” a “perfect gem,” but it was confiscated by the United States Government before the sale. Though the catalogue states that the “piece has cost the Col. the tidy sum of $2200.00,” a pencil note states “Cost $1200.00,” followed by “$1400 option.” Ex John J.
