TLS, one page, 8.5 x 11, National League of Professional Baseball Clubs letterhead, April 9, 1935. Letter to Lee McPhail. In full: “I have just learned that the American Legion Convention is to be held in St. Louis beginning September 23d and running through September 26, and a suggestion has been made for a change in our schedule which would permit of [sic] ball games being played in St. Louis while the Convention is on. Under the present schedule only one game is scheduled for St. Louis during that time and that on the final day of the Convention. In order to fill those rather important dates in St. Louis, it would be necessary for us to change the Cincinnati schedule to this extent. Move up the Chicago final series in Cincinnati from September 24 to September 23d, bringing Chicago into Cincinnati on the 23d and 24th. Leave the 25th open and then run through with your final Pittsburgh series as scheduled. I would like to know whether or not you would be willing to give your consent to such a schedule change in case it is agreeable to all parties.” In fine condition, with intersecting folds, one through a single letter of signature. A change was made, but it was not the one suggested by the National League President. Chicago didn’t play two games in Cincinnati at all in September; their August 2–4 three-game series was extended to August 5th, and became a five-game series, including a doubleheader.
