Forbidden Planet Robby The Robot Talking Masudaya Robot Collectable
Forbidden Planet Robby The Robot Talking Masudaya Robot Collectable - Stand aside R2-D2 and C-3PO. The grand daddy of all Sci Fi Robots is, without a doubt, "Robby the Robot" which premiered in the Sci-Fi Classic "Forbidden Planet" (1956). For the time, it was the most expensive robot ever created for film, at a cost of $125,000 (which is over a million dollars in 2014 dollars). It was designed by Robert Kinoshita and became the true "star" of this epic sci-fi big-budget masterpiece. And Robby became the hallmark for all robots that followed, especially inspiring filmmakers like George Lucas. Immediately after "Forbidden Planet" Robby had his own film, "The Invisible Boy" (1957) , and went on to be used in dozens of classic TV shows such as "The Twilight Zone", "The Addams Family", "Lost In Space", "Wonder Woman", and "Mork & Mindy". In addition Robby enjoyed a major career in "personal appearances" all over the world. He is the only robot to be billed in the credits as "Robby the Robot - Himself". Of course Robby The Robot merchandise exploded on the scene right after "Forbidden Planet" was released, and has never abated. It has become one of the most collectable and sought after movie memorabilia merchandise in history. One of the most desired is the 1/5 Scale Robby The Robot Talking Figure made by the Masudaya Company of Japan in the early 1980's. It recites Robby's most famous "welcome" when pressed, with a light that blinks behind its speaker. it comes with two sets of "hand tools" that attach to his arms, as well as separate attachments for his antennas and other extremities. This is a brand new, never used version. Even the plastic antenna pieces have not be removed from their packaging. it also comes with all the original official sale documentation (mostly in Japanese), and is in its original Box. It operates, and even comes with a battery. This wonderful treasure comes from legendary Jerry Neeley's collection. Neeley was the well known film historian, writer, collector and owner of the famous "Jerry's Video" in Los Feliz, CA. Customers, collectors and throngs of directors, writers and industry people would come from around the world to talk to Jerry, whose knowledge and memory of film, especially when it came to Sci-Fi, was encyclopedic, and also to visit his famous collection. Also included is a Letter of Provenience from Jerry Neeley's widow and co-owner of his various video and memorabilia shops. The box has some slight wear on the edges. The Robot is approx 16"x7".
