Forbidden Planet Original Planet Records Louis & Bebe Barron Soundtrack Album
A remarkable find! Besides the astonishing set design, effects, and of course, Robby The Robot, perhaps the most memorable thing about the all time Sci-Fi Classic, "Forbidden Planet" (1956) was the music. Producer Dore Schary wanted everything about this epic (since it was in fact based on Shakespeare's "The Tempest"), to be different than other low-budget B-Movie Sci-Fi efforts, including the music. He rejected virtually all the standard composer's ideas. At his wits end he finally discovered a couple in a nightclub in Greenwich Village, New York. He heard some of their "far out" work using new electronic devices and hired them on the spot. "Forbidden Planet" thus became the first motion picture to use a total electronic score. This is made even more remarkable when you realize that synthesizer's (like the Moog), wouldn't be invented for almost ten years. A soundtrack album didn't really exist, so the composers, Louis and Bebe Barron created this Limited Edition from their own "Planet Records. In the original shrink wrap, the album itself is in mint condition having never been played. Very rare and highly sought after.
