 Forbidden Planet Krell Lab Piece
Of course when anyone speaks of the classic 1956 Sci-Fi classical “Forbidden Planet”, the first thing that comes to mind is the world’s first “mechanical superstar”, Robby the Robot (designed and built by Robert Kinoshita), who was the first (and perhaps only) robot to be billed as “Robby the Robot – Himself” in the credits. But besides the amazingly inventive special effects (Stanley Kubrick once said it was the only “outer space” movie he ever respected, and inspired him to invent his own effects for “2001: A Space Odyssey”), was the Arthur Lonergan designed Morbius House and Krell Lab. No one had really ever seen anything like that before. “Forbidden Planet” became one of the first “obsessions” for serious memorabilia collectors. Like “2001”, sadly there is very little to collect these days. That is what makes this piece so special. This is one of the actual cars that were seen rising and descending in the Krell Lab.
