Folk Art Carved Wing Chair<p>19th Century, carved birch and pine, in our opinion this chair is a great marriage between the Chippendale style and African American influence. The carving on the wings, crest, arms and posts is very suggestive of the motifs seen in Gold Coast African tradition. The chair was found in a plantation carriage house in Tennessee and it is quite probable that this is an American chair. However, wood tests were inconclusive as red pine and birch are native to both North America and Europe. The wings are secured by Rosehead nails and the remainder is pegged. Mortise tenon construction. It retains an old, dry varnish finish. The overall structure is very loose and there are 2 repaired chips and other loss to carving and wear throughout. There is a 18th or 19th Century carpet type seat supported by a removable piece of black cloth. We would highly recommend a personal examination of this item prior to purchase. Also we will not guarantee condition unless is is shipped by a fine arts hauler. Estimated Shipping: $200-$300. This does not include insurance. Insurance is 1% of the total cost of this piece.

8. Return Guarantee: Ken Farmer Auctions makes every effort to accurately represent items that it sends to auction, including size, age, restoration & authenticity. If a winning bidder is sent a lot that is materially different than that which was described in the web auction, Ken Farmer Auctions will refund (at its own discretion) the total purchase price & shipping expenses, upon return receipt of the lot in its original condition. If the buyer fails to meet any applicable conditions set forth in this "Terms & Conditions of Sale" statement, or breaches any State of Virginia or Federal laws, Ken Farmer Auctions will hold the buyer responsible for the entire purchase price of the item, along with all other expenses incurred as a result of such a breach, including legal expenses. Ken Farmer Auctions reserves the right to, at its discretion: a) cancel the transaction while retaining, as part of liquidation damages, any and all payments made by the buyer, or b) re-sell the property at public auction without reserve, and the buyer in breech shall be responsible for any deficiencies that result as well as all normal commissions due to Ken Farmer Auctions, including expenses. <p>
