War correspondent (1887–1939) who lived a life of danger; he was one of radio’s first news commentators, known for his fast talking delivery. Serving as a World War I correspondent, Gibbons lost an eye after being hit by German gunfire while attempting to rescue an American soldier at the Battle of Belleau Wood, France. Vintage matte-finish 10.75 x 13.75 photo of Gibbons during a radio broadcast, signed and inscribed in red pencil, “To Dick Hyman, from his fellow-worker and pal, Floyd Gibbons, Mar, 1937.” In very good condition, with scattered creases (heavier to the top), lightly trimmed edges, and a few irregular marks and spots to image.
