This is a wonderful oil on canvas in the classical style by the 19th century Florentine friar and master copyist, Fra Luigi de Buono. Signed on the left side "Luigi de Buono Fr" and beneath "Firenze". Stretcher measures 21" by 26" and frame measures 30" by 36.5" by 1.5". Depicted is a lovely Italian woman of means wearing fine dress and jewelry. Little is known about the artist, but based on his location in Florence and his known copy of a work by Guido Reni (see below), it is likely this work is a copy of another member of the Bolognese School when the city was the center of Classicism due in large part to the influence of Carracci Academy. Relined at some point in the past, likely 10-30 years ago. This painting resides on the upper west side of Manhattan ( New York city ) and may be seen by appointment.

Additional images gladly forwarded upon request.

On December 5, 2006 at they Sotheby's Old Master Paintings auction in London, a painting attributed to Luigi de Buono in lot 439 was offered with an estimate of 6,000-8,000 BP and sold for 7,200 BP (just under $14,000). This other work is an exceptional and large (60" by 88") copy of "Aurora" by Guido Reni (1575-1642), the important Italian Baroque painter and founder of the Bolognese School.
