ALS, one page, 5 x 8, 10 South Street letterhead, December 16, 1887. Handwritten letter to Lord Cross, in part: "I trust that you will not think me very presumptuous in asking whether it would be possible for you to speak to me about your Indian Sanitary affair before you leave London for Christmas. Could you kindly appoint an hour some afternoon before Tuesday? I know this is asking much. But you have taught me to rely on your kindness." In fine condition. R. A. Cross, 1st Viscount Cross, was a British statesman and Conservative politician who served as Secretary of State for India from 1886 to 1892. He also notably served as Home Secretary between 1874–1880 and 1885–1886, and oversaw the passage of the Indian Councils Act of 1892.
