Mochila style maker marked saddle with fine floral tooling, early styled in the traditional way. Reminiscent of an early California saddle in the style and tooling. Marked in script on the rigging "M. Andrade / Kalaheo K. / Made". A beautiful and well-made saddle, leather covered rawhide tree, removable cover with attached jockeys. Excellent condition and all original throughout.

Manuel Andrade immigrated to Kauai from Portugal in the late 1880s to teach saddle making to his grandson, who is thought to be the last of the traditional Hawaiian saddle makers.
