Flintlock dueling pistol signed McNaught on lock, Richmond VA on barrel. Circa 1816 to early 1820’s. Approx. .62 caliber smooth bore. 9-1/2” medium to heavy weight octagon barrel. Half stocked with saw-handled grip. Adjustable set trigger. Engrav iron mounts with fancy hand-engraved silver trim. The barrel shows approx. 75-80% brown finish with strong evidence of striping, some just beginning erosion and pinprick pitting. The lock shows considerable case hardening within a graying patina as does the tang and breech. The stock shows some dings, mars, scratches, slight wear at the wrist, but is generally good overall. The checkering shows some slight edgewear, some minor marks and small imperfections to the stock. The point of the saw handle is capped in silver and is nicely engraved to match the engraved forend cap, and the butt is edged in silver with a large oval inlay, all engraved in similar patterns. The tang screw is slightly marred, pistol is double gold-banded at the breech, and the lock is nicely engraved. The pistol is in its original flintlock configuration with correct hammer, small parts. An original to the period brass-tipped wooden ramrod is included. Refer The Code of Honor: Dueling
