This device was used to test the strength of black powder and was probably made in the 1700s by an English gunsmith. The device is not signed or numbered. There is a "C" shaped piece of iron which extends to a disk that is mounted on a bracket under the barrel. The disk is numbered 1 to 11 and the numbers correspond to the amount of force that is discharged when the action is cycled. When the powder is discharged the force coming out of the barrel moves the "C" shaped piece of iron downward causing the disk to rotate, thereby measuring the amount of force.
