Flintlock “Kentucky” style buck and ball gun, signed “S” and “B” on barrel. Incised carved on both sides of stock and wrist. Plain brass mounts. Silver four-pointed star inlaid into left cheek piece area. German silver disk inlaid behind the tang with unusual plate inlaid below small cheek piece showing two lovebirds. The gun measures 56-1/4” overall with 40-3/4” barrel of approx. .46 caliber smoothbore and is of light weight. The lock is marked R. A. Parrish and is a reconversion from percussion back to flint using what appears to be the original hammer and other well-made newer parts. The lock shows some rebrowning and the welding at the breech is somewhat crude. There is some losses around the lockplate, the wood is good to very good with some small losses and opening around the pinholes, a couple of large chips, some scratches, cracks, normal aging, but generally good overall with nice grain, good carving, a replacement of wood at the toe, but generally good overall with nicely faceted wide butt, matching faceted triggerguard. The rear ramrod ferrule is an old hand-made replacement, the sideplate is nicely shaped and shows two screw-holes. There is some light carving around
