Flintlock Kentucky Rifle, signed ''A. (Adam) Ernst'' in script on top barrel flate, .54 cal. smoothbore, 46-1/2'' octagonal barrel with four barrel keys, 62'' overall, maple stock relief carved behind and in front of cheekpiece and around barrel tang. Mfg'd in the 1810 period. Adam Ernst, a well-respected gunsmith of the period, worked in York County, PA, during the early 19th Century. The fancy curled trigger is one of his trademarks. Condition is very good, properly reconverted back to its original flintlock configuration. Stock has a period wrist repair with seam and three small square-head nails visible; a 15'' front section of the forend has been properly restored and barely visible to the eye, with some finish reapplied to the stock which shows period wear.
