Flintlock Conversion of a Tschinke Rifle with Finely Inlaid Bone and Pearl Stock

Reminiscent of a Tschinke wheelock, this example was converted to flintlock in the late 18th or early 19th Century. Raised bead front sight and dovetailed notch rear sight, with light scroll and punch dot engraving at the swamped muzzle and on the breech and tang. Additional scrollwork with textured background is present on the lock, with light scroll patterns on the frizzen spring. A trigger with a curled tip is installed in a gold washed plate, with a trigger guard doubling as a finger rest. Smooth full length stock, with bone ramrod tip and pipes, small round and diamond shaped mother of pearl accent panels on the forearm and buttstock, extensive bone scroll and dot decoration, and a number of bone animal motifs, including scenes of dogs chasing rabbits, an elephant on the right side of the buttstock above the patch box, and a scene of a man on horseback spearing a wild animal on the cheekrest.

Good. The steel shows a well aged brown patina overall, with some edge wear and mild handling marks. The stock is good, with a few small chips absent from the forearm, scattered pressure dents, and attractive inlays. Mechanically very good.
