This large size painting was created around 1750. Depicted is a southern mountain landscape, which is covered by approaching dark clouds. An almost dead tree stump in the foreground leads the viewer's eye to the waterfall behind, its spray splashing into the air. A man with a donkey and a woman balancing a basket on her head moreover illustrate the vastness and grandeur of the idyllic landscape.



The painting is in age-appropriate condition showing age-related craquelure. The area of the sky and the trees show some extensive overpainting. Around the edges with some abrasions due to framing. The stretcher measures 76 x 120 cm. The framed dimensions are 96 x 140 cm. The frame also shows slight signs of wear. (cru)
