Flathead Indian Beaded Axe Dance Club 1950-60's
The lot features a circa 1950-1960's axe tomahawk dance club from the Flathead Native American Indians of Montana. The piece shows a hand formed older stone axe head with worked edge, deep groove for the handle attachment and flat bottom (all typical manufacture techniques of pre-historic early stone head tools). The head is attached to a wood haft handle that is secured with a thick parfleche rawhide strap. The handle shows a trade clothe wrapping with red shroud accents, white ermine fur and raccoon fur hides. The handle also shows "crazy crow" multi-colored glass trade seed bead in a linear pattern. At the end of the club shows a throng of Indian tanned hide used around the wrist. The top of the head shows a drop of beads and feathers. From a large Great Falls, Montana Native American Indian collection. Measures 17.5"L with an additional 7"L strap and 10"L top fringe.
