American soldier and politician (1835–1905), nephew of Robert E. Lee, who was a Confederate cavalry general during the Civil War and a general during the Spanish-American War. In the interval between the two wars, Lee served as Governor of Virginia and Consul General at Havana. Ink signature, “Fitzhugh Lee,” on an off-white 3.25 x 1.25 slip clipped from an envelope, likely his verification of censorship of a soldier’s letter. The phrase “Soldiers mail” written above his name with his rank beneath his signature, in another hand. In fine condition with a “Military Station Havana” postmark near his signature. Lee is scarce as commander of US forces in Cuba.
