First-model Schofield revolver, .45 caliber, blued finish, wood grips, serial #1879 on butt. Right side of barrel lug shows WF&CO Express stamp and number 1879. The revolver shows traces of original blue mixed in with a browning patina, perhaps as much as 20%. Some scattered light to moderate erosion and surface pitting with some slightly heavier pitting on the left-forward 2” of the barrel. The addresses and markings are good andsharp. The action good, bore very good. Matching cylinder number on back of cylinder has not been ground. The Wells Fargo marking and barrel length appear correct to he period, the grips are carved “GWF” and lefttop and on right side and show four notches at the rear heel. The bottom of the grip shows many small ‘tacking’ marks from replacing horse-shoe nails. The action is working but not perfectly, needs timing andadjustment. Est: $2,500 - $5,000
